Your first visit

Our dedicated team at Dulwich Dental are committed to providing dental and personal care of exceptional quality in a comfortable yet efficient manner. We pride ourselves in treating every patient with the highest degree of care and respect. We endeavour to create a strong and understanding relationship with all our patients so we can provide you with individualised care, from regular check-ups and professional cleaning through to cosmetic dentistry and orthodontic treatment if relevant.

Our modern practice is fitted with the technology designed to make your experience more comfortable, and we strongly believe in transparency and keeping you informed about your treatment options.

Because we want to be transparent and help you know what to expect from your dental care, we’ve outlined what usually happens in a standard first visit. Please be aware that, because individuals can have very different needs, it’s possible for there to be slight deviations in your own first visit; however, we’ll explain our reasoning at every step of the way so you know what’s happening and why.

  • Upon arrival at the practice, our staff will greet you and ask you to fill in a new patient form if you haven’t already completed one. Our staff are also happy to assist with any questions you may have.
  • If you arrive early, you will be offered a drink which you can enjoy in our comfortable waiting area with a multitude of options to keep you entertained.
  • Your dentist will provide you with a comprehensive dental assessment and an oral hygiene treatment to get an overview of your current oral state. This also helps us detect and treat any potential issues.

An assessment and hygiene treatment may typically include:

  • comprehensive exam of your teeth, gums and soft tissues of the mouth
  • x-rays if required
  • treatment planning
  • digital imaging
  • a professional clean and polish
  • periodontal charting, as required (this refers to a process in which we measure your gum health, helping us keep an eye on any potential signs of gingivitis or more advanced gum disease)
  • oral hygiene instructions and tips that are tailored for you
  • fluoride application

If you’re a Bupa member with combined Hospital and Extras cover, including general dental, you can enjoy gap free regular dental check-ups and other preventative services, up to yearly limits. It’s just another way we’re making it easier for you to get preventative oral health care. Waiting periods, policy and fund rules apply.

No gap dental services

Pay nothing on the following preventative services:

  • Your regular dental exam
  • Scale and clean
  • Bitewing x-rays where required
  • Fluoride Treatment
  • Mouthguards where required

To be eligible for no-gap dental, you’ll need to be a Bupa member with combined Hospitals and Extras cover, including general dental. Waiting periods, funding policy and rules apply. It’s always best to contact Bupa directly to confirm the details of your cover and yearly limits
