Orthodontics & Invisalign

Orthodontics and orthopaedics involve the moving or straightening of the teeth in order to correct the jaw alignment. This can improve the strength, functionality and look of your smile, as well as assist in the care and long-term health of teeth, gums and jaws. At Dulwich Dental, we offer orthodontic treatments for both kids and adults.

Orthodontic treatment involves wearing braces over a period of 1-2 years, but specific treatment times will vary based on individual circumstances. Sometimes treatment takes less time if performed when your teeth are still developing, but we’ve successfully treated many adult patients over the years – so braces aren’t just for kids!

Braces are usually made from wire and small springs which are attached to a metal plate. Once affixed to the teeth, the braces apply a gentle pressure which, over time, encourages them to move into a more desirable position. However, there are alternatives to metal braces if you’re looking for a more discrete option.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a system that uses clear, removable aligners to straighten your teeth. We periodically create new aligners that are fitted to your teeth as they shift and move into proper alignment.

Because they are clear and removable, many adult patients opt to use Invisalign instead of traditional metal braces. Whether Invisalign is right for you will depend on a variety of factors, such as your age, orthodontic needs, budget and lifestyle. For example, Invisalign may not be the right solution for those requiring more advanced orthodontic treatment or jaw alignment.

Luisa has worked in the dental industry for over a decade and has been a dental practitioner for over 6 years. She has a particular interest in preventative dentistry and believes that oral health is an integral part of overall health. Luisa prioritises her patient’s comfort, her caring and approachable manner help ease any anxiety. Luisa enjoys working with children and helping them create positive habits for life.

In her spare time, Luisa enjoys exercising, dancing and family gatherings.

Dr Anshu Singh

Dr Anshu Singh enjoys the fusion of art and science in dentistry. She values the importance of prevention and loves helping patients change habits to improve their health for the better.

Outside of work you’ll find Anshu reading, travelling and trying out new bars & restaurants.

Dr Ellis Vakirtzis

Dentist 

Dr Ellis Vakirtzis delivers professional and patient-oriented dental care for the whole family, with his gentle manner putting even the most anxious patients at ease. He takes the time to explain all options and develops a strong relationship with patients to better understand their needs.

Ellis has a Doctor of Dental Medicine and Bachelor of Medical Science from The University of Sydney, during which time he won the Dental Alumni Society Award II for proficiency in operative dentistry. He has a special interest in preventative dentistry, orthodontics, and implants, and as such has completed further training through Progressive Orthodontic Seminars (graduating with Highest Honours), Invisalign, and the Nobel Biocare Mentorship Program.

He also believes in finding a balance between work and play, so outside of the dental clinic you will find him on the golf course working on his slice, at the beach searching for that perfect wave to surf, or at the cafè with family and friends.

Dr John Vakirtzis

Dentist 

John graduated in 1985 and provides all forms of dentistry for the entire family. He has a special interest in orthodontics, implants and cosmetic dentistry and is eligible for the IAO Board. He is also a fellow of the ICCDE (International College of Continuing Dental Education). 

John Vakirtzis has received the following awards:

  • Leslie Raymond Carroll Prize for Proficiency in Prosthetic Dentistry
  • Australian Society of Endodontology, Prize for Clinical Proficiency in Endodontics
  • John Stephen Hill Memorial Prize for Proficiency in Clinical Operative Dentistry
  • K.P. Mackinnon Prize for Proficiency in Clinical Prosthetic Dentistry
  • Dr Henry Bruce Maxwell Prize for Proficiency in Operative Dentistry

Outside of work he enjoys bike riding, tennis, brunching with his daughter and reading the Bible.
